Tax-free automobiles from Indonesia surged

Nearly 4,000 units of automobile imported to Vietnam last week

Statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs shows that last week (from September 21 to 27), the total number of automobiles imported to Vietnam increased sharply by 27.7 per cent compared to the previous week.

Last week, Vietnamese automobile enterprises imported to Vietnam 3,915 units of automobiles with the total value of about $70.9 million. Whereas, the previous week experienced the import of 3,065 units worth $66.2 million.

Automobiles entering Vietnam last week were mostly manufactured in Thailand with 2,263 units. There were also 1,440 units from Indonesia, 112 units from Japan and 70 units from Mexico.

Automobiles imported to Vietnam last week were mostly cars with nine or fewer seats with 3,020 units worth $53.2 million, accounting for 77 per cent of the total number of imported automobiles.

These cars were mostly manufactured in Indonesia with 1,440 units, accounting for 47.7 per cent of the total number of nine or fewer seat cars entering Vietnam last week. There were also 1,391 units of this type imported from Thailand, 112 units from Japan and 70 units from Mexico.

Especially, after weeks of absence on the list of imported cars into Vietnam, cars with over nine seats have returned last week with the number of up to 135 cars, worth $4.2 million. All of these cars were imported from Thailand. 

Last week also experienced 737 units of trucks imported from Thailand, worth about $12.2 million in total.

In terms of special-purpose vehicles, Vietnamese enterprises imported only 23 units with the total value of $1.2 million. Thirteen units of these vehicles were from China, eight units were from South Korea.
